February 2008 - Recently, The Heritage Group named Sandy Ahlgren, Marketing Counselor at Heritage Village Retirement Campus, as their February Wellness Worker of the Month.  The Heritage Group established the Wellness Worker of the Month program in 2007 to help promote healthy eating and exercise for employees at each of its three Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing facilities and Retirement Campus. 

Sandy has been employed with The Heritage Group for nearly three years.  In September of 2006, she was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and was in danger of losing her vision.  With the assistance of her primary care doctor, Dr. Anshu Bais, and her optometrist, Dr. Terry Schultz, Sandy was able to maintain her vision and manage her diabetes.  In addition, she has lost over fifty pounds by eating healthy and following a strict exercise program.  As a result, Sandy has seen her blood pressure and cholesterol drop significantly.  Thanks to the encouragement of her husband, Vern, and several co-workers, she has met her first goal but continues to work daily to maintain her new lifestyle.
