April 2008 - Thanks to the support and advocacy efforts of numerous people in the community and across New York State, The Heritage Group is pleased to report that the New York State Legislature along with Governor David Paterson have agreed to restore $198 million of the original $214 million in cuts to nursing homes proposed by former Governor Eliot Spitzer in the 2008-09 Executive Budget.

Between online letter submissions and individually signed letters, The Heritage Group successfully delivered over 3,000 signed petitions to local legislators and Governor David Paterson advocating against nursing home funding cuts.

A special THANK YOU goes out to local legislators, Senator Catharine Young, Assemblyman Bill Parment, and Assemblyman Joe Giglio, for legislating on behalf of their district nursing homes in Albany and ensuring a majority of the proposed cuts were reinstated.

The Heritage Group also wishes to thank each and every individual who advocated on the organizations' behalf for their unwavering support, a commitment to the seniors of the community, and for ensuring The Heritage Group will continue to fulfill its mission of promoting hope, dignity, and purposeful living.
