August 2008 - Rotary International is an organization of service clubs knows as Rotary Clubs located all over the world.  Its purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build good will and peace in the world.  
One such club is the Rotary Club of Jamestown .  Its motto is “Service above Self”.  One way the Rotary Club of Jamestown serves the community is through its Community Grant program.  Money from the annual Rotary Auction is given out in the form of grants.  In 2008, more than $15,500 was awarded in grants to various organizations and community projects.
   

    Heritage House Childcare & Learning Center , which daily serves sixty children between the ages of six weeks and five years, focuses on the whole child in order to help children acquire key life skills-motor skills, social skills, and self esteem.  The Rotary Club grant will allow for the purchase of portable cribs which can be folded up and stored when not in use to allow for maximum movement and play area in the rooms.  In addition, the Grant can be used to purchase large motor equipment and toys for use in the Infant Room to allow for daily climbing, crawling, playing, creativity, as well as sensory, physical and mental development.
   

    Heritage House offers several benefits to local families. All families with children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years are eligible to apply, and will be considered based on space availability.  Heritage House is open weekdays from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and offers emergency childcare available each day for pre-registered children.  They are now enrolling for Fall 2008 classes.  To learn more, contact Heritage House at (716) 488-4500.
