In the November 2002 issue of Golf Digest Magazine, Jamestown, New York (located just seven miles from the Retirement Campus) was ranked number one out of 314 cities as the best area for a golfer to reside. The criteria used to come to this determination included the number of public courses per capita, the number of total courses per capita, the average green fees of the courses, the climate modifier, and the average star rating of Golf Digest readers.
Other than great golf, Jamestown is also the birthplace of actress and comedian Lucille Ball. Located in the heart of downtown Jamestown, the Lucy-Desi Museum houses some of the most unique artifacts from her exciting career. Each spring, the downtown district hosts the "Lucille Ball Birthday Celebration," turning the area into a carnival complete with rides, games and comedy shows. Finally, Chautauqua County is fortunate enough to be located right along the banks of Chautauqua Lake. The lake area is home to some of the most favored tourist spots, including the cultural center, Chautauqua Institution. The Institution hosts several artists each summer, most of whom are leaders in their particular field of study.
