Willow Klink, a young Brownie Scout, earned her latest badge in a very special way – by helping the Elders at Rolling Fields Elder Care Community, a Heritage skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Conneautville, Pennsylvania.
The Brownie Philanthropy Badge helps young girls to understand the needs of people, identify ways to help people in need, and what it means to be a philanthropist. In order to earn the badge, scouts spent time learning what it feels like to be in need of help from others. They were each given suggestions on ways to practice philanthropy, including to volunteering and ways to financially support a cause.
In order to receive her Philanthropy badge, Willow was required to identify a group she wanted to aid, and develop her own philanthropic plan from start to finish to execute.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Willow, along with her scout troop, had regularly visited Rolling Fields and spent time with the Elders there playing games, reading, and developing lasting friendships. When the time came to earn a Philanthropy badge of her own, Willow remembered her time at Rolling Fields and wanted to help them. On her own, Willow raised $110 in just three weeks seeking donations for Rolling Fields. Willow generously presented these funds to Rolling Fields so that the Elders could enjoy more activities like the ones she and her special friend had done during their visits.

It is amazing that at such a young age she has a strong philanthropic spirit – her future is bright! Willow’s donation will aid Rolling Fields as we continue to provide a vibrant life full of love, comfort, and support for each Elder we serve.”
