Long before she made her home at Heritage Green, Lillian Henry understood the deep comfort of community, family, and a life anchored in steadfast devotion.
Born on July 28, 1921, in Kane, Pennsylvania, to Wade and Lena Crate, Lillian grew up as the youngest of two daughters. Her childhood in Sheffield, Pennsylvania—where her father served the community as a local barber—was filled with the quiet, enduring rhythms of small-town life. It was during these early years that Lillian established a spiritual foundation that would guide her across a century: joining Christ First United Methodist Church, a sacred congregation she would faithfully attend and treasure for ninety-seven years.
As a young woman stepping into the world, Lillian brought a meticulous work ethic and warm personality to her roles as a clerk, serving neighbors at Quality Markets, a local dentist’s office, and Temple Pharmacy. But her true journey of partnership began on August 11, 1941, when she married Jack Henry in Kane. Together, Jack, a skilled carpenter, and Lillian built a life rich in love, simple pleasures, and shared adventures—from playing cards to baking, knitting, and admiring vibrant flower gardens.
Across decades, their family grew to include two children—Rebecca Swanson of Jamestown, NY, and Jack Henry of Chesterfield, MA—along with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters. Through every season, whether listening to sports on TV, cheering on her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, or enjoying the bright rhythms of Big Band music, Lillian filled her home with warmth, hospitality, and joy.

When reflecting on 105 years of living, raising a family, and watching generations flourish, Lillian’s guidance for life remains strikingly simple yet deeply profound. When asked about the greatest life lesson she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she didn’t hesitate:

It was respect that guided how she treated every customer at the pharmacy counter, respect that held her marriage strong through decades of partnership, and respect that anchored her decades of service in her church community. By putting respect first—respect for God, respect for family, and respect for one’s neighbors—Lillian created a loving, grounded legacy that continues to live on through every member of the Henry family today.
