Jerry’s journey to Heritage began in August 2011, following a sudden collapse of his home care support system. For over a decade, he had managed his health independently at home with a specialized hospital bed, a ramp, and the help of community caregivers and his devoted wife, Kathy. But when his primary caregiver abruptly quit, and Kathy—already dealing with severe workplace stress—suffered a fractured kneecap from a fall, their family physician stepped in. For Jerry’s own safety and well-being, the transition to long-term care became the necessary next step.
Moving into a skilled nursing facility can be a jarring transition for anyone, but Jerry chose to view it as an opportunity to build a new community. While his physical baseline changed overnight, his core identity as a social, quick-witted gentleman never wavered.
