Marilyn Hooper has spent a lifetime understanding the beauty of simple pleasures, the power of a warm smile, and the rich fulfillment that comes from connecting with others.
Her deep roots in the community took hold after WWII, when her husband Edwin’s parents opened Ramsey’s Restaurant in Greenhurst. Marilyn and Edwin later took the reins, continuing to run the cherished local establishment for decades. Known for its delicious chops, steaks, and seafood, Ramsey’s was far more than just a place to eat—it was a welcoming spot where neighbors gathered and felt like family.
For 45 years, Marilyn lived right across the yard from Heritage Green. Throughout those decades, she was an integral part of the local community, active in both the Fluvanna Community Church and the Fluvanna Free Library. An exceptionally talented seamstress, she spent countless hours cross-stitching, crocheting, and knitting. She also filled her days with gardening, baking, reading novels, playing Monopoly, and cheering enthusiastically for the Buffalo Bills and NASCAR. Above all, Marilyn has always been a people person—a woman who loves striking up a friendly conversation with everyone she meets.
Having lived just across the yard for so long, making her home at Heritage Green felt like a natural continuation of community life. On September 11th, Marilyn will mark a special milestone, celebrating 9 years of calling Heritage Green home. On any bright afternoon, you can find her sitting happily in the courtyard, soaked in the warmth of the sunshine—her absolute favorite place to be.
At Heritage Green, Marilyn’s social spirit is celebrated every day. She treasures daily visits from her devoted son, Greg, enjoys listening to Christian ministry services, visits with Pastor Bob and Pastor Dayle, and loves sharing lighthearted jokes with staff members like Cody. Surrounded by a team that treats her with constant care, kindness, and positivity, Marilyn enjoys complete peace of mind.
At 94 years young, Marilyn’s outlook on life serves as an inspiring reminder to everyone around her: “Enjoy everything while you can… be kind to everybody, and do things with people. I like people.”
Marilyn embodies this philosophy every single day—brightening the halls of Heritage Green, sharing stories in the sun, and reminding us all of the profound power of kindness, connection, and a grateful heart.
